The aim of the present work is the genetic characterization of 4 populations from the Pyrenees through Y-STR analysis. We calculated haplotype frequencies from a sample of 137 unrelated native males from central eastern Pyrenees (Cerdanya, Jacetania, Vall D'Aran and Alt Urgell). The inter-population comparison was carried out with Iberian Peninsula and European series, which had been analyzed fro the most polymorphic systems (DYS437, DYS438 and DYS439). Frequency matrix was analyzed by a principal coordinate analysis. On the basis of overall results, there is a relative grade of genetic diversity among our Pyrenees samples, less than that of the rest of compared populations.
