Resumen de Dimorfismo sexual en adolescentes de Maltrata, Veracruz, México

  • The village of Maltrata has suffered an accentuated economic crisis in the last decade of the past century; this led to reduce the quality of life of its inhabitants. Itis known that a consequence of the chronic environmental stress on the physic growth is the inhibition in the expression of sexual differences. To investigate this phenomenon, a cross-sectional growth study was performed among school children, aged 10 to 16 years old. We registered: size, weight, muscular and fat areas of upper arm, the sum of triceps and subscapular folds and the body mass index. This study shows a reduction of the sexual differences in size, weight and muscular area of upper arm and a keeping of sexual differentitation of the fat area and the sum of the two folds. In the last one, itis observed a greater increment on women. Men were most affected in the musuclar are and women, in the size.
