Resumen de El puente que antecedió al Puente Nuevo de Ronda: Una hipótesis constructiva

Antes del Puente Nuevo, en el mismo lugar, se edificó un puente de un único arco que acabó derrumbándose. Se hace un análisis de lo escrito y publicado desde la noticia de su inauguración, aparecida en la Gaceta de Madrid el 24 de mayo de 1735, hasta la actualidad, pasando por los visitantes de Ronda en el siglo xviii y xix. Se dedica un apartado especial a desmitificar el supuesto e idealizado puente, dibujado por William Jacobs en su libro Travels in the South of Spain, publicado en 1811. A continuación se describe cómo pudo haberse construido dicho puente, siguiendo los métodos constructivos de la primera mitad del siglo xviii. Se hace primero una hipótesis del aspecto que pudo tener dicho puente, partiendo de los arranques del mismo, aún existentes, y con unos tanteos geométricos. Se describen posteriormente los pasos constructivos, desde los dibujos de las monteas, a la construcción de la cimbra, su movimiento a su sitio definitivo, la colocación de los sillares del puente, la retirada de la cimbra y la puesta en servicio. Por último, se analizan diversas hipótesis que pudieron hacer caer el puente.

Before the New Bridge, in the same place, a bridge with a single arch was built, which ended up collapsing. A review is made of what is written and published since its inauguration, in 1735, to the present day, including what visitors of Ronda in the 18th and 19th centuries wrote on this topic. A special section is dedicated to demystifying the supposed and idealized bridge, drawn by William Jacobs in his book Travels in the South of Spain, published in 1811. The following describes how this bridge could have been built, following the construction methods of the first half of the 18th century. First, a hypothesis is made of the aspect that this bridge could have had, starting from its skewback, still existing, and with some geometric approximations. The constructive steps are described later, from the lifesize model to the construction of the falsework, its movement to its final site, the placement of the ashlars of the bridge, the removal of the falsework and commissioning. Finally, the various hypotheses that could have caused the bridge to fall are analysed.
