    El presente artículo expone la historia de los orígenes del teléfono en Málaga y su provincia, desde finales del siglo xix, y su evolución en las vertientes legislativa, económica y tecnológica hasta completar el primer tercio del siglo xx. Analiza el desarrollo espectacular de las telecomunicaciones en Málaga y su provincia, con el impulso llevado a cabo por la Compañía de Telefónica Nacional España, a raíz de la concesión del servicio telefónico del Estado a dicha compañía en 1924. Se inicia el estudio en 1881, año en que se solicitan las primeras líneas telefónicas en Málaga, recorre la evolución del servicio a finales del siglo xix, con la creación de la primera Red Telefónica de Málaga y los diferentes concesionarios que se hicieron cargo de la misma. Continúa la investigación durante el primer cuarto del siglo xx, donde destaca el establecimiento de circuitos interurbanos por parte de la Compañía Peninsular de Teléfonos. En el periodo de la Dictadura de Primo de Rivera que transcurre entre 1923 y 1930 se produce un crecimiento del servicio telefónico en toda la provincia que coincide con una época de despegue económico. Este auge se hizo patente sobre todo en la ciudad de Málaga, primera capital de Andalucía en la que se construyó una central automática y se modernizaron las antiguas redes con la instalación miles de metros de cableado nuevo y canalizaciones subterráneas, lo que contribuyó al aumento del número de abonados y la mejora de la calidad del servicio tanto urbano como interurbano. Finaliza el trabajo en 1931, año del advenimiento de la Segunda República.

    The history of the telephone in Malaga starts at the end of the xix century.

    Since then, the telephone and others communications have been developed in different fields like economics or technology, being the beginning of the xx century the period which is going to be studied in this article. This article presents the history of the origins of the telephone in Malaga and its province, since the end of the 19 th century, and its evolution in the legislative, economic and technological aspects until the first third of the 20th century. It analyses the spectacular development of telecommunications in Malaga and its province, with the impetus given by the Spanish National Telephone Company, following the concession of telephonic service of the State telephone to that company in 1924. The study begins in 1881 when the first telephone lines were requested in Malaga, it includes the evolution of the service at the end of the 19 th century, with the creation of the first telephone network in Malaga and the different concessionaires which were in charge of it. It continues with the investigation during the first quarter of the 20 th century when the interurban circuits by the Mainland Telephones Company were established. During the period of Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, which took place from 1923 to 1930, there was an increase in telephone service throughout the province, which coincided with a period of economic take-off. This boom was particularly evident in the city of Malaga, the first capital of Andalusia where an automatic power station was built and the old networks were modernized with the installation of thousands of meters of new wiring and underground pipes, which contributed to an increase in the number of subscribers and the improvement of the quality of service both urban and interurban. The work finishes in 1931, the year of the advent of the Second Republic.
