Se estudian las manifestaciones religiosas y culturales de los pueblos que conformaban la vicaría de Zahara del arzobispado de Sevilla (villas de Zahara y Pruna y pueblas de Algodonales, El Gastor y Algámitas) en el siglo xviii. Se analizan las bases económicas de las parroquias y el clero que las servía, así como la evolución demográfica, la religiosidad y el comportamiento social de los vecinos de este territorio, señorío de la casa ducal de Arcos. Así mismo se establecen los procesos constructivos de las iglesias que fueron construidas ex novo o renovadas en este siglo. Este texto está basado casi exclusivamente en la abundante documentación que proporcionaron las visitas pastorales conservadas en el Archivo General del Arzobispado de Sevilla.

In this work, the religious and cultural manifestations of the towns that made up the vicariate of Zahara, part of the Archbishopric of Sevilla in the eighteenth century, are studied. These towns are Zahara and Pruna and the villages of Algodonales, El Gastor, and Algamitas. The economic bases of the parishes and the clergy that served them are analyzed, as well as the demographic evolution, religiosity, and social behaviour of the inhabitants of this territory, the feudal estate of the ducal house of Arcos. Likewise, the construction of the churches that were built ex-novo or renovated in this century, is established. This text is based almost exclusively on the abundant documentation provided by the pastoral visits preserved in the General Archive of the Archbishopric of Seville.
