    Este estudio trata de mostrar la evolución urbana de las distintas plazas que articulan el centro histórico de Cartagena. Estos nodos constituían espacios destacados en la ciudad, a nivel social y arquitectónico. Mediante un breve análisis observaremos cómo las plazas de Risueño, Merced o Ayuntamiento han perdido ese carácter cerrado acorde a la escala humana que tanto afecta a la calidad del espacio libre público. Estos análisis nos pueden ayudar a revertir la situación actual de la plaza de la Serreta, un espacio muy deteriorado, pero que todavía puede recuperar su morfología decimonónica, que tanto mejoró la manera de vivir la urbe hace más de cien años. La sobresaliente cúpula de la iglesia de La Caridad habla del valor de este fragmento urbano, el cual conecta puerto, centro y ensanche, y que debería marcar el inicio de la recuperación de la parte oeste del recinto histórico.

    Tis study tries to show the urban evolution of the diferent squares that articulate the historic center of Cartagena.Tese nodes constituted outstanding spaces in the city, socially and architecturally. Trough a brief analysis we willobserve how the squares of Risueño, Merced or City Hall have lost that closed character according to the humanscale that so much afects the quality of public open space. Tese analyses can help us to reverse the current situationof the Serreta square, a very deteriorated space, but which can still recover its nineteenth-century morphology,which improved the way of living in the city more than a hundred years ago. Te outstanding dome of the churchof La Caridad speaks of the value of this urban fragment, which connects port, center and widening, and shouldmark the beginning of the recovery of the western part of the historic area.
