El liderazgo de David Cameron: modernización del Partido Conservador y radicalización de su euroescepticismo. ¿Una contradicción? (II)

    El Partido Conservador británico está cerca de retornar al gobierno de Reino Unido tras trece años en la oposición. El mensaje tory, centrado en la revolución social, suscita interrogantes (e incluso dudas sobre su veracidad) a la vez que supone el principal cambio con respecto a los años de ejecutivo de Thatcher y, en menor medida, de John Major. En lo referido a la cuestión de la relación con la Unión Europea (UE), ésta ha seguido la corriente iniciada en los ya lejana década de los ochenta para radicalizarse, hasta tal punto que podemos decir que bajo un gobierno de Cameron, Reino Unido será más socio incómodo que nunca. El primer paso ya se ha dado con la retirada tory del Partido Popular Europeo, medida que ha suscitado críticas a favor dentro del partido pero también en contra, especialmente, aunque no sólo, del Labour Party, y de aquellos sectores que la perciben como insuficiente y exigen que se den los pasos precisos para el abandono definitivo. Mientras tanto, Cameron ha optado por conceptos como renegociación y repatriación de poderes que en ningún caso ocultan su disconformidad con el rumbo de la UE, especialmente tras la ratificación checa del Tratado de Lisboa.

    The Conservative Party is close to go back to the UK government after 13 years of Official Opposition. The message from the Tories, centred in social revolution, rouses questions (and even doubts about the veracity) at the same time that it implies the main change with respect to the years of government of Thatcher, and to a less extend, to those of John Major. Concerning the question to the relation with the European Union, this has followed the trend started in the already far eighties to get more radical, to such an extent that we can say that under a government of Cameron, UK will be more an uncomfortable fellow than ever. The first step is already given with the Tory’s departure from the European Popular party, measure that has raised critics in favour within the party but also against, especially, although not only, from the Labour Party, and from those sectors which see it as insufficient and demand the precise steps to be given for the definitive abandon. Meanwhile, Cameron has chosen for concepts such as renegotiation and repatriation of powers which in any case hide his disagreement with the course of the EU, especially after la Czech ratification of Lisboa Treaty.
