Religious communities of women in the Old Regime reflected the daily conflicts of social life. I will focus here on those conflicts with an affective and emotional nature, manifested as acts of insubordination, rebellion, or transgression of behavior, be they conscious or unconscious. Moved by habits, emotional survival. or by the expectations that they found in some of the convents, these women reflect the other face of convent life, presenting life stories in which they defended the attitudes of transgression. I will deal here with nuns who do not submit to the intended cloistered life, with nuns «devoted» to suitors who in turn are «devoted» to them, with reformer nuns complaining of «disorders», with confronted factions, and with those who wanted to return to the secular life. I will present their lives as possible examples of research and I will deal with the documentary sources and forms of analysis that I consider most suggestive, as well as their results, insisting especially on their connection with the history of emotions. The setting: the archbishopric of Seville at the beginning of the 17th century.
