Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure frequently performed in women of reproductive age, allowing the resolution of benign and malignant pathologies. Materials and methods: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study, in which a review of medical records was carried out. 176 patients who underwent hysterectomy in the period from January 2020 to October 2023 were included. Results: the mean age was 50.85 years, with a higher prevalence of the age group 36 - 45 years (38.1%), single (67%), with high school education (38.1%), with a history of arterial hypertension (22.2%) and anemia (9.1%), with previous gynecological surgery documented in 45.5%, the majority with a history of alcohol intake (29.5%). Most patients were menstruating when surgery was performed (67.7%), changes in the menstrual cycle were the main clinical manifestation (60.2%), surgery was performed abdominally in 69.9% of cases, with uterine fibromatosis being the most frequent indication (63.1%), and there were no records of complications or mortality. Conclusion: the main approach used was abdominal, in a large proportion of cases surgery was secondary to the diagnosis of uterine fibromatosis, there was no evidence of morbidity or mortality, so it is possible to state that it is a safe and effective surgical procedure. In short, the findings of the research correspond to those documented internationally in various investigations.Recibido: 06-06-2024Aceptado: 26-07-2024Publicado: 01-11-2024
