  • The Virgin and Child by Michelangelo in the Church of Our Lady, Bruges, is here set into thr context of the patronage of the Moscron, a prominent Flemish merchant family, and in particular of Jan II, who commissioned the work. Seen from both a northern European and an Italian perspective, the stylistic, material and iconographic choices made by the artist can be more fully understood
