Resumen de Una teoría de la cultura

Manuel García Cabero

  • The Freudian idea of culture has its origin in the analysis of morality as a repressive factor. Escape mechanisrns lead man to create cultural products such as myth, which assume the function of explaining collective and individual behavior. Oedipus complex stands as the main driving force in every cultural creation. Therefrom springs the resignation to actualize desire, father's law, order and promise. In this way, religion becomes the main source of culture. Science would be the real way through which reason could become the only liberating factor confronting repressive forces.
