The objective of this article is to conduct a documentary review on the internal and external factors that affect the quality of the Colombian educational system and its relationship with globalization processes, contributing to improving the levels of educational quality. In Colombia and around the world, education is one of the fundamental pillars that drive the economic, scientific, and cultural development of society; in this regard, the results of standardized external and internal tests suggest that the quality of the Colombian educational system is not in the best position worldwide. Among the most important aspects found, it is highlighted that the perception of educational practices developed by teachers remains framed within the traditional model. Additionally, national investment in modernization processes does not meet the specific needs that arise and that the globalized world demand.
