In this paper we aim to analyse the marriage of Plautilla and Caracalla, bearing in mind not only the development of the marriage in terms of the description provided by classical authors, but also with the aim of understanding the causes that motivated its celebration, and the transcendence that it had both for Septimius Severus´policy and for the social consolidation of Plautianus. To this end, attention will also be paid to the social context of the time, as we consider it to be fundamental in proposing that not only the prefect but also the princeps may have been interested in this union.
