    El II Congreso de ACCBAL y V Seminario Taller Internacional de la Red CICUALES titulado: "Política, ética, docencia y ciencia", se celebró del 19 al 21 de septiembre de 2018 en la ciudad de Santiago de Cali, Colombia. Este evento se organizó de manera conjunta entre la Universidad del Valle, la Asociación Colombiana para la Ciencia y Bienestar del Animal de Laboratorio (ACCBAL), y la Red Colombiana de Comités Institucionales para el Cuidado y Uso de Animales (CICUALES). En esta ocasión la sede del evento y anfitrión fue la Universidad del Valle, corazón de la investigación de la región suroccidental.

     Las nuevas propuestas legislativas en investigación con animales ambicionan obtener grandes beneficios para continuar en el desarrollo e implementación de los principios de las 3`s R (reducción, refinamiento y reemplazo).1 En este sentido, dicho evento fue generador de interés en los medios políticos y organismos públicos y privados de toda Colombia; así mismo, incorporó la participación de estudiantes, investigadores, comités de ética y directivos locales, regionales, nacionales e internacionales. Fue un pilar importante entorno al cual giraron conferencias y talleres que destacaron la necesidad del mejoramiento de la calidad de los biomodelos y la importancia que tiene la infraestructura para garantizar la validez, confiabilidad y reproducibilidad de la investigación que con ellos se desarrolla.

    The II Congress of ACCBAL and V International Seminar-Workshop of the CICUALES Network entitled: "Politics, Ethics, Teaching and Science", was held from September 19 to 21, 2018 in the city of Santiago de Cali, Colombia. This event was organized jointly by the Universidad del Valle, the Colombian Association for Science and Welfare of Laboratory Animals (ACCBAL), and the Colombian Network of Institutional Committees for the Care and Use of Animals (CICUALES). On this occasion the venue and host was the Universidad del Valle, the heart of research in the southwestern region.

    The new legislative proposals in animal research aim to obtain great benefits to continue the development and implementation of the principles of the 3Rs (reduction, refinement and replacement).1 In this sense, this event generated interest in political circles and public and private organizations throughout Colombia; it also incorporated the participation of students, researchers, ethics committees and local, regional, national and international directors. It was an important pillar around which conferences and workshops were held, highlighting the need to improve the quality of biomodels and the importance of infrastructure to guarantee the validity, reliability and reproducibility of the research carried out with them.
