Geriatría en la Universidad del Valle: plan, barreras y estrategias

- Resumen:En la Universidad del Valle la geriatría tiene un plan curricular para desarrollarse a nivel de pregrado y postgrado en las carreras de salud, él debería llevar a la creación de la especialidad de geriatría. Sin embargo, para este proceso hay barreras como son la negación del envejecimiento y del anciano como paciente especial, y los mitos sobre el anciano y la geriatría. También hay estrategias como el fomento de actitudes pdsitivas y de los valores humanos hacia el anciano, el estudio del envejecimiento normal y del anciano sano, la enseí'ianza de la relación profesional-anciano, la geriatría como asignatura obligatoria, la formación interdisciplinaria y la investigación en geriatría.   Summary:Geriatrics at the University of Valle has a curriculum plan for its development in hea1th professions at undergraduate and graduate levels, it might lead to the creation of geriatrics specialty. However, for this process there are barriers such as denial of both aging and aged patient, and myths about the aged patient and geriatrics. Also, there are strategies such as promotion of positive attitudes and human values toward the aged, study of normal aging and healthy aged, teaching oftheprofessional-aged patient relationship, geriatrics as mandatory issue, interdisciplinary education, and geriatrics research.
