It delves into the author's background, detailing his birth in Rincón de Soto, education at universities such as Sigüenza, Salamanca, and Alcalá, and the circumstances surrounding the novel's creation during a period of convalescence. González's experiences during his university years, particularly at Sigüenza, where he encountered academic laxity and dubious scholarly practices, are contrasted with the more rigorous environments of Salamanca and Alcalá. Despite the challenges, González's formative years provided inspiration for his literary endeavours.
