This paper intends to identify -after more than half a century since the beginning of the armed Revolution of November of 1954 and after 45 years since the Independence- the main problems of Algeria has faced in the search of political stability. The same revolutionary proves has created an ambiguous 126 Estudios Internacionales de la Complutense vol. 9-2007/nº2 Zidane Zeraoui model of State in which the roles of the Popular National Army and the Party have not been clearly defined, even in the time when the National Liberation Front held the monopoly of power. Therefore, the expectations of political stability in Algeria depend on a deep change in governmental structures and in the model of State that prevails until today.
The problematic in Algeria still has some variables that need to be resolved. At internal level, the political model in which the Army still prevails as a central actor in the changes of orientation by having meta-constitutional powers that have been enhanced by the resurgence of terrorism. At regional level, the crisis of the Arab-Maghreb Union still depends on the resolution of the West Sahara dispute. At Mediterranean level, the relations with Frances have not reached a normal course, after almost half a century since the Independence.
