La herencia de Blair al laborismo británico: un partido de gobierno

    En junio de 2007 se puso punto final a los diez años de gobierno de Tony Blair en Reino Unido. Sin duda alguna Blair ha sido el político más relevante de la historia del Labour Party y el único político británico, junto con Margaret Thatcher, que ha ganado tres elecciones generales consecutivas. La figura de Blair es excelsa porque provocó la reforma de su partido para adaptarlo y modernizarlo ideológicamente, empresa para la cual fue clave la no ruptura y sí la continuación con el marco económico y político creado por el Thatcherismo. Es importante también precisar que la revisión ideológica del Laborismo que hizo Blair no se inició con su llegada al poder, sino que las bases de la misma las cimentó Smith (1992-1994) si bien fue Blair quien la amplió y culminó durante sus años en la oposición (1994-1997). No menos importante es la herencia real que Blair ha dejado al Labour Party: durante sus años de gobierno fue el Partido natural de gobierno, lo cual le ha convertido en un partido potencialmente ganador de cara al futuro, todo lo contrario a lo que sucedía hasta 1997.

    In June 2007, Tony Blair’s 10 years government in the UK was over. Without any doubt, Blair has been the most relevant politician in the history of the Labour Party and the only politician together with Margaret Thatcher, who won three consecutive general elections. Blair´s figure stands up since he caused the reform of his party to adapt it and to modernize it ideologically, duty for which the no rupture and the continuation with the economical and political frame created by the Thatcherism played a key role. It is also important to specify that the ideological review of the Labourism Blair made did not begin with his arrival in power. The foundations were already laid by Smith (1992- 1994) although it was Blair who made them broader and culminated them during his years in the opposition (1994-1997). No less important is the real legacy Blair has left to the Labour Party: during his years of government it was the Natural government Party, which has turned the Labour Party into a potential winning party in view to the future, quite opposite to what was happening until 1997.
