    El presente artículo constituye una aproximación teórica a la relación entre memoria e historia, las diferencias y las similitudes entre ambos conceptos, y cómo la memoria puede convertirse en una fuente para la investigación histórica, específicamente, en el estudio del pasado reciente. También se aborda el rol del recuerdo, el silencio y el olvido en la discusión acerca de la memoria colectiva y sus usos a nivel social. Asímismo, se trata la batalla en torno a la historia en el marco de procesos judiciales que generan distintas posiciones respecto al pasado, tomando como estudio de caso el debate por la memoria durante el juicio por genocidio en Guatemala, en 2013.

    This article constitutes a theoretical approach to the relationship between memory and history, the differences and the similarities between both concepts, and how memory can become a source for historical research, specifically, in the study of the recent past. The role of memory, silence, and oblivion in the discussion about collective memory and its uses at a social level is also addressed. Likewise, the battle around history is discussed within the framework of judicial processes that generate different positions regarding the past, taking as a case study the debate around memory during the genocide trial in Guatemala, in 2013.
