    Los colibríes Chispita Gorginaranja (Selasphorus scintilla) y Estrellita Gorgimorada (Philodice bryantae) habitan las tierras intermedias y altas de las cordilleras de Costa Rica y Panamá desde los 700 msnm. Ambas especies presentan dimorfismo sexual en el plumaje y prefieren áreas abiertas para forrajear. Aquí reporto la presencia de ambas especies en el Refugio Lapa Verde a 79 msnm en Sarapiquí, Heredia, Costa Rica. Esta es la menor elevación registrada para ambas especies en el país. Ambos reportes tuvieron lugar a mediados de abril lo que sugiere que estas especies podrían hacer migrar a elevaciones más bajas de lo que se había reportado. Se requiere monitorear los piedemontes y las tierras bajas del Caribe para determinar si estas observaciones corresponden a un patrón común de migración.

    The Scintillant Hummingbird (Selasphorus scintilla) and the Magenta-throated Woodstar (Philodice bryantae) inhabit mid-elevations and highlands of the mountain ranges of Costa Rica and Panama from 700 masl. Both species exhibit sexual dimorphism in their plumage and prefer open areas for foraging. Here, I report the presence of both species in the Lapa Verde Refuge at 79 masl in Sarapiquí, Heredia, Costa Rica. This is the lowest elevation record for both species in the country. Both sightings occurred in mid-April, suggesting that these species might migrate to lower elevations than previously reported. Monitoring of the foothills and lowlands of the Caribbean Slope is needed to determine if these observations correspond to a more common migration pattern.
