Existe relación entre el alzheimer y la enfermedad periodontal? Una revisión tipo paraguas

    ANTECEDENTES: el Alzheimer es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que se identifica por ocasionar la pérdida de la memoria, el lenguaje y la disfunción cognitiva, lo cual contribuye a la reducción de las maniobras relacionadas con la higiene bucal y por consiguiente la aparición progresiva de la enfermedad periodontal, caracterizada por inflamación de las encías, sangrado, bolsas, movilidad, además de la incidencia de bacterias como la Porphyromonas gingivalis, que agrava en cierto modo el estado cognitivo de estos pacientes y se encuentra relacionada con la enfermedad periodontal. OBJETIVO: Revisar la información disponible y actual sobre la posible relación entre Alzheimer y la enfermedad periodontal para establecer un estado del arte. METODOLOGÍA: artículo de revisión sistemática tipo paraguas, artículos publicados en el rango de tiempo de 2015 a 2022, que muestren resultados acerca de la relación que existe entre estas dos enfermedades. Se realizaron búsquedas en los registros de bases de datos electrónicas, como PubMed, Science direct, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, MEDLINE, los registros fueron seleccionados y se aplicaron los criterios de la metodología Prisma, finalmente se escogieron trece artículos. RESULTADOS: se confirmó la relación entre Alzheimer y enfermedad periodontal, provocando en estos pacientes la pérdida dental en sus estadios más avanzados y la incidencia de bacterias vinculadas con la parte periodontal, que agrava en cierto modo el estado cognitivo de los pacientes con este tipo de condición mental. CONCLUSIÓN: existe una relación entre Alzheimer y la enfermedad periodontal, sustentado en previas investigaciones, sin embargo, hace falta más sustento en la literatura y la inclusión de ensayos clínicos aleatorizados, acerca de esta temática. Recibido: 14/05/2024Aceptado: 22/05/2024

    BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease that is identified by causing loss of memory, language and cognitive dysfunction, which contributes to the reduction of maneuvers related to oral hygiene and therefore the progressive appearance of periodontal disease. , characterized by inflammation of the gums, bleeding, pockets, mobility, in addition to the incidence of bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, which somewhat aggravates the cognitive status of these patients and is related to periodontal disease. OBJECTIVE: To review the available and current information on the possible relationship between Alzheimer's and periodontal disease, for establish an art state. METHODS: umbrella-type systematic review article, articles published in the time range from 2015 to 2022, showing results about the relationship between these two diseases. Searches were made in the records of electronic databases, such as PubMed, Science direct, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, MEDLINE, the records were selected and the Prisma methodology criteria were applied, finally thirteen articles were chosen. RESULTS: the relationship between Alzheimer's and periodontal disease was confirmed, causing dental loss in these patients in their most advanced stages and the incidence of bacteria linked to the periodontal part, which somewhat aggravates the cognitive status of patients with this type of mind disease. CONCLUSION: There is a relationship between Alzheimer's and periodontal disease, supported by previous research, however, more support is needed in the literature and the inclusion of randomized clinical trials on this subject.
