    This article deals with the theme of the four senses of Scripture and, specifically, of the allegorical sense, in a sermon by the late medieval Valencian Dominican preacher, St Vincent Ferrer (1350-1419), in which the author allegorizes the theological virtue of Faith. The universal method of medieval exegesis, considered by the Catalan sermonist as the only valid in the exposition and interpretation of the sacred text, is conjugated in the sermon with knowledge of the multisecular intellectual, literary and theological patristic and scholastic tradition and with elements of the ancient cultural universe, giving the sermon its specular and analogical character.

    Trata-se nesse artigo do tema dos quatro sentidos da Escritura e, de forma específica, do sentido alegórico, em um sermão do pregador dominicano valenciano tardo-medieval São Vicente Ferrer (1350-1419), no qual o autor alegoriza a virtude teologal da Fé. O método universal de exegese medieval, considerado pelo sermonista catalão como o único válido na exposição e interpretação do texto sagrado, é conjugado no sermão com conhecimentos da multissecular tradição intelectual, literária e teológica patrística e escolástica e com elementos do universo cultural antigo, conferindo ao sermão seu caráter especular e analógico.
