Membrilla a mediados del siglo XVIII. Una villa de la Orden de Santiago en el Catastro de Ensenada

    El presente artículo tiene como objetivo aproximarse a la situación socioeconómica de Membrilla durante el siglo XVIII. En este sentido, se llevará a cabo un análisis empleando como fuente documental principal las Respuestas Generales del Catastro de Ensenada, a fin de conocer aspectos como la administración y la gestión de la localidad, los sectores económicos y laborales, la población, la sociedad, el urbanismo, y la actividad industrial y manufacturera, entre otros. De esta forma, se obtendrá la imagen de una villa que superaba los dos mil habitantes, cuyo sector económico principal era el agropecuario, representado por el cultivo de cereales de secano y el ganado mular y ovino. Asimismo, tenía una pequeña representación de los sectores secundario y terciario.

    The aim of this article is to examine the socio-economic situation of Membrilla during the 18th century. In this sense, an analysis will be carried out using the Respuestas Generales of the Cadastre of Ensenada as the main historical source, to find out about aspects such as the administration and management of the town, the economic and employment sectors, the population, society, town planning, and industrial and manufacturing activity, among others. In this way, an image will be obtained of a town that had more than two thousand inhabitants, whose main economic sector was agriculture and livestock, represented by the cultivation of cereals and mule and sheep farming. It also had a small representation of the secondary and tertiary sectors.
