Habitat loss and overfishing are the most significant threats to diadromous fish, a group of species of high socioeconomic and conservationist importance. The main objective of LIFE AGUEDA is the elimination of hydro-morphological pressures identified in the project area, or its mitigation, towards the reestablishment of a good ecological status, as required by the Water Framework Directive and River Basin Management Plans. Project actions include the integration of demonstrative solutions for re-naturalization and restoration of river morphology and associated habitats, translocation of European eel juveniles, and development of market differentiation mechanisms for some diadromous fish species that benefit from the project.
