  • Resumen
    • Following a long time tradition of work for wetlands conservation, WWF has launched an inventory in the Balearic Islands based on a methodology of WWF Greece. This inventory contributes to the implementation of Ramsar Resolution XII.14 "Conservation Mediterranean basin island wetlands", and is part of the MedIsWet project to identify wetlands in all Mediterranean islands.Intensive analysis of geospatial data, field work, scientific references analysis, and participation of local stakeholders resulted in the identification 358 wetlands of more than 0.10 hectares hat are recorded in a database that will be accessible online. The information gathered allows to know presence of species, values, uses and threats of the wetlands, and thus to design appropriate restoration and protection measures for their conservation, that will need the implication of diverse public authorities, private sector and civil society. Small wetlands remain the main challenge regarding protection.
