From the XV century the intervening years endowed the Forest charter with attributes sought by each prevailing social order. Statutes relating the game, the regime for commercial timber, the enclosures have overturned the spirit of the Forest charter and have damaged the interests of the commoners overwhelmed by advancing capitalism. In the 20th century, new freedoms of the Forest have been created in the name of respect for nature and habitat preservation. In this process, the Forest charter has taken on the role of ennobling the new aspirations of society.

A partire dal XV secolo alla carta della Foresta furono attribuiti contenuti tratti dall’ordine sociale prevalente in un determinato momento. Le leggi del Parlamento relative alla caccia, alla disciplina del commercio del legname, alle recinzioni alterarono lo spirito della carta della Foresta e danneggiarono gli interessi dei commoners travolti dallo sviluppo del capitalismo. Nel XX secolo si sono affermate nuove «libertà» della foresta nel nome del rispetto della natura e della preservazione dell’habitat. In questo processo la carta della Foresta ha svolto il ruolo di nobilitare le nuove aspirazioni della società.
