Resumen de Bases Neuronales de la Regulación Emocional en adolescentes. Revisión narrativa

  El objetivo del presente manuscrito fue realizar una revisión narrativa sobre las bases neuronales del cerebro emocional adolescente y sus implicaciones en la conducta, así como las disciplinas que enmarcan esta relación entre emoción y comportamiento. El procedimiento consistió en la búsqueda en bases de datos como: PUBMED, ScienceDirect, SciELO, Redalyc y Google Académico. Se utilizaron combinaciones de palabras con booleanos (AND y OR) en inglés y español; los términos utilizados fueron: Neurodesarrollo, Adolescentes, Funciones Ejecutivas y Regulación Emocional. La literatura muestra que el cerebro emocional adolescente está guiado por el desarrollo de áreas subcorticales sobre zonas corticales en las primeras etapas de la adolescencia, situación que cambia para el final de esta. Este cambio se manifiesta con modificaciones a niveles funcionales y estructurales los cuales conllevan a la modulación de la reactividad e impulsividad característica de la etapa adolescente, a un proceso mayormente controlado del área emocional y conductual.

  The objective of this manuscript was to carry out a narrative review of the neural bases of the adolescent emotional brain and its implications for behavior, as well as the disciplines that frame this relationship between emotion and behavior. The procedure searched databases such as PUBMED, ScienceDirect, SciELO, Redalyc, and Google Scholar. Word combinations with Booleans (AND and OR) were used in English and Spanish; the terms used were Neurodevelopment, Adolescents, Executive Functions, and Emotional Regulation. The literature shows that the adolescent emotional brain is guided by the development of subcortical areas over cortical areas in the early stages of adolescence, a situation that changes by the end of it. This change is manifested with modifications at functional and structural levels, which lead to the modulation of reactivity and impulsiveness characteristic of the adolescent stage to a largely controlled process of the emotional and behavioral area.
