Resumen de Génesis de una sindemia, obesidad en mexicanos y la COVID-19

  En México, la mortalidad y morbilidad han tenido cambios trascendentales en lo que se refiere al comportamiento epidemiológico de las enfermedades desde inicios del siglo XX. Cabe señalar que las causas por las que más se enferman la población mexicana no son las mismas que provocan el deceso, lo cual se puede observar a través de información epidemiológica existente.  En el caso del sobrepeso y obesidad, se han vuelto una epidemia desde hace diez años lo que ha provocado un costo directo e indirecto de 67.345 millones de pesos mexicanos, cantidad que, evidentemente, se irá incrementando a lo largo del tiempo. Recientemente, se ha visto relacionada con un virus que en un primer momento se le denominó 2019-nCoV, pero posteriormente se le nombró como SARS-CoV2. La enfermedad causada por este virus está poniendo en riesgo la vida de las personas en todo el mundo y en específico en el país, lo cual evidencia la interacción estrecha que existe entre enfermedades infecciosas y enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. Ante este panorama, el gobierno ha tratado de implementar ciertas medidas de prevención. Sin embargo, ignora que se está enfrentando a una sindemia, pues se tiene la presencia conjunta de un nuevo suceso que sería el COVID-19 pero, a su vez, la obesidad es un problema que ya estaba presente y que por años México ha venido cargando. Sin duda están compartiendo el mismo espacio geográfico, tiempo, así como causantes sociales.

  In Mexico mortality and morbidity have gone through significant changes regarding the epidemiological behavior of diseases since early twentieth century. It should be noted that according to existing epidemiological information the reasons why the Mexican population get sick the most are not the same that cause death. Overweight and obesity both have become an epidemic for ten years, which has caused a direct and indirect cost of 67,345 million Mexican pesos, an amount that, evidently, will increase over time. Recently, this epidemic has been related to a virus that was initially called 2019-nCoV, but was later named SARS-CoV2. The disease caused by this virus is endangering people's lives worldwide and specifically in our country, which shows the close interaction between infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases. In this scenario, the government has tried to implement certain prevention measures. However, the government ignores that it is facing a syndemic, since there is the joint presence of a new event that would be COVID-19, but, in turn, obesity is a problem that has been around in Mexico for years. There is no doubt they are sharing the same geographic space and time, as well as social causes.
