    In this article the author offers a renewed and more complete vision of Ibn Khaldûn’s Book of Examples. First, he explains Ibn Khaldûn’s attempt to write a global history according to a scientific conception very close to that adopted in the modern era, by combining in his approach the anthropological, sociological and historical dimensions. Secondly, he shows how this enterprise was doomed to failure and the lessons that we can draw from it today for any project to write a global history

    Dans cet article l’auteur propose une vision renouvelée et plus complète du Livre des Exemples d’Ibn Khaldûn. Dans un premier temps, il explique la tentative d’Ibn Khaldûn d’écrire une histoire globale selon une conception scientifique très proche de celle qui est adoptée à l’époque moderne, en combinant dans son approche les dimensions anthropologiques, sociologiques et historiques. Dans un deuxième temps, il montre en quoi cette entreprise était vouée à l’échec et développe les enseignements que nous pouvons en tirer aujourd’hui pour tout projet d’écriture d’une histoire globale
