Scienziati e guerra freda. Tra collaborazione e diritti umani is an edited volume by Elisabetta Bini and Elisabetta Vezzosi, wich brings together th results of a research project at the University of Trieste (wich started in 2017 and ended in May 2018 with a conference at the University of Naples Federico II). It offers a serie of case studies that exemplify the role played by scientists in international affairs during the Cold War. Indeed, during the second half of the twentieth century, the so-called "science diplomacy" emerged as a strategic asset on both sides of the Iron Curtain. This umbrella term refers to various forms of relationships between science and diplomacy such as: "science in diplomacy" (mobilizing diplomats in the promotion of transnational scientific projects); "science for diplomacy" (using science as a "soft power or as political capital in foreign affairs). It is therefore a field of study at the intersection of the history of science and the history of international relations.
