    El escritor mexicano Alfonso Reyes fue uno de los máximos divulgadores de la antigua retórica en el ámbito iberoamericano. El objetivo de esta contribución es presentar la concepción que de la retórica tenía el autor de "Cuestiones gongorinas" y la importancia que daba a los grandes maestros en el arte de convencer y persuadir, para luego comprobar cómo se ha relacionado la retórica con los estudios lingüísticos y literarios de mediados del siglo XX, particularmente en el marco de la teoría de la novela practicada durante el llamado boom de la literatura latinoamericana. Sin duda, quienes hoy insisten en hablar , por ejemplo, de la poética narrativa o de la teoría de la novela están promoviendo su retorno a la retórica, pues todos los estudios centrados en el análisis del discurso no pueden desestimar fácilmente esta disciplina; al contrario, son más conscientes de la presencia ineludible de una «retórica de la ficción».

    The Mexican writer alfonso Reyes was one of the greatest disseminators of ancient rhetoric in the Ibero-American sphere. The aim of this contribution is to present the conception of rhetoric that the author of "Cuestiones gongorinas" had and the importance that he gave to the great masters in the art of convincing and persuading. Then I want to verify how rhetoric has been related to linguistic and literary studies of the mid-20th century, particularly in the framework of the theory of the novel practiced during the so-called boom of Latin American literature. Without any doubt, those who today insist on speaking, for example, of narrative poetics or of the theory of the novel are promoting a return to rhetoric, since all studies focused on discourse analysis cannot easily dismiss this discipline; on the contrary, they are more aware of the inescapable presence of a «rhetoric of fiction».
