    Além de Garcia da Orta e Frei Heitor Pinto, referidos no índice onomástico da "Rhetorica Christiana", outras figuras representativas do humanismo renascentista em Portugal terão tido acolhimento na obra de Diego Valadés. Neste artigo procurar-se-á situar o autor franciscano no ambiente cultural pós-tridentino, indagar os contactos que poderá ter mantido com humanistas portugueses no período em que esteve na Itália, rastrear na sua obra o uso ou conhecimento de fontes portuguesas, seja sobre a evangelização do Oriente e exegese bíblica, seja sobre teoria retórica ou a arte de pregar.

    The "Index Auctorum" in "Rhetorica Christiana" suggests that Diego Valadés was influenced by some of the towering figures of Portuguese Renaissance humanism, namely Garcia da Orta and Friar Heitor Pinto. This paper will try to frame the Franciscan author's contribution within the post-Tridentine cultural context, with particular attention to exchanges with Portuguese humanists during his stay in Italy. It wil further examina his familiarity with (and use of) Portuguese sources, visible when dealing with topics as diverse as the conversion of the East or biblical exegesis, rhetorical theory or the art of preaching.
