    La influencia del filosófo español José Ortega y Gasset fue determinante en varios aspectos para orientar la filosofía latinoamericana. Entre los pensadores hispanoamericanos que se enfrentan a la perspectiva filosófica de Ortega y Gasset está también Ignacio Ellacuría Beascoechea, profesor y rector de la Universidad Centroamericana "José Simeón Cañas" (UCA) de San Salvador. Ellacuría se había fijado el objetivo de sintetizar el pensamiento neoescolástico y el vitalismo del filosofo español, con el fin de potenciar los elementos que considera buenos en el pensamiento orteguiano, convencidos de que este método es la única manera de entenderlo. El presente estudio reanuda las consideraciones desarrolladas por Ellacuría sobre el pensamiento de Ortega, con la intención de retomar indicaciones de método, procesado por Ellacuría, para reestructurar el pensamiento de Ortega en un contexto cultural, como el actual, que todavía necesita de sus reflexiones.

    The influence of the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset was, under several aspects, decisive in orienting Latin-American philosophy. Among the Latin American thinkers sharing the philosophical perspective of Ortega y Gasset is also Ignacio Ellacuría Beascoechea, professor and rector of the University of Central America "José Simeón Cañas" (UCA) of San Salvador. Ellacuría had set the goal of synthesizing the Neo-Scholastic thinking and vitalism of the Spanish philosopher, in order to enhance the elements he considered valid in Ortega y Gasset´s thought, convinced that this method was the only way to understand it. The present study takes up considerations developed by Ellacuría on the thought of Ortega y Gasset, with the intention of presenting indications of method, worked out by Ellacuría, in order to recover the thought of Ortega y Gasset in a cultural context, such as the present one, which still needs his reflections.
