La "nueva biografía" en España entre 1920 y 1930: editoriales, periodismo y retratos

    Este artículo estudia el fenómeno de la publicación de biografías en España en editoriales y en la prensa entre 1920 y 1930. Para ello utiliza una metodología que combina la historia de las colecciones editoriales, el análisis de los géneros periodísticos y el estudio de la relación con disciplinas artísticas como la pintura o la fotografía. El aporte principal está en acercarse a la eclosión de lo biográfico en sus diversas manifestaciones, con una visión de la biografía que la vincula con los géneros biográficos en prensa y con la tradición del retrato español. La originalidad de este trabajo reside en identificar las relaciones que el género de la biografía teje con su contexto discursivo. En concreto, con la escritura periodística, con la novela, con otros géneros retratísticos, así como con la llegada de la fotografía a las revistas gráficas y con el retrato pictórico de esa época. Los resultados a los que se llegan descubren las vías por las que la nueva biografía se introdujo en la cultura española más allá de las colecciones editoriales. Se muestra también cómo el periodismo de la época adaptó los contenidos biográficos y cómo se generó una relación transversal con los retratistas de la Generación del 27.

    This article studies the phenomenon of the publication of biographies in Spain through publishing houses and the press between 1920 and 1930. To do this, it uses a methodology that combines the history of publishers' catalogs, the analysis of journalistic genres, and the study of the relationship with artistic disciplines such as painting or photography. The main contribution is in approaching the emergence of the biographical in its various manifestations, with a vision of biography that links it with biographical genres in the press and with the tradition of Spanish portraiture. The originality resides in identifying the relationships that the biography genre weaves with its discursive context. Specifically, with journalistic writing, with other portrait genres, as well as with the introduction of photography in graphic magazines and with the pictorial portrait of that time. The results reveal how the new biography was introduced into Spanish culture. It also shows how the journalism of the time adapted the biographical contents and how a transversal relationship was generated with the portraitists of the Generation of '27.
