The Luiz Gonzaga Hydroelectric Power Plant (UHLG), located in the municipality of Petrolândia/PE, was built by the São Francisco Hydroelectric Company (CHESF), between the 1970s and 1980s, under the ideal of conservative modernization to produce and distribute electrical energy, and expand the agro-industrial hub in Submédio São Francisco. Giving rise to the compulsory resettlement of Itaparica, between the states of Pernambuco and Bahia, with implications that persist to this day, many narratives were constructed regarding this political-economic enterprise. Thus, through a comparative analysis between the narrative present in the booklet Mudar para Melhor, authored by CHESF, and the voices of rural workers themselves in the reports Barragem: a occupation – 1986, and Barragem II – 1986, the aim was to demonstrate the existence of a process of negotiation and conflict, omitted in the paternalistic narrative made official by the State.
