Resumen de Polysemy and construction morphology

Geert Booij

  • This paper argues that the patterns of systematic polysemy that we often find for morphological categories provide evidence for a conception of morphology that is referred to as Construction Morphology. The lexicon is hierarchical in nature, and contains both individual complex words and the schemas according to which they have been formed. In a hierarchical lexicon with different levels of abstraction, semantic subregularities in a set of complex words can be accounted for without losing sight of the commonalities in all members of that set.
