Movilidad de la población y control territorial: las Antillas francesas en la segunda mitad del siglo XX

    Este artículo examina las razones por las que el gobierno francés fomenta la migración de la población en zonas alejadas de los centros políticos y económicos de la nación con el fin de preservar el control territorial. En la segunda mitad del siglo XX y en un contexto independentista de las antiguas colonias francesas, mostramos que el objetivo principal es la protección de las llamadas zonas de “ultramar” francesas a través del desplazamiento de poblaciones. Para analizar eso destacamos dos flujos migratorios, por un lado, la emigración de la población antillana al territorio continental francés y, por otro, la inmigración de franceses a las Antillas, esto mediante un análisis de la literatura crítica sobre la situación en las Antillas francesas. Huelga decir que las condiciones de ambas movilidades son totalmente diferentes entre sí. Este trabajo se suma al conjunto de la literatura sobre desplazamientos, movilidades, migraciones dentro del Caribe.

    This article examines the reasons why the French government encourages population migration in areas that are remote from the nation’s political and economic centers in order to preserve territorial control. In the second half of the 20th century and in the context of the independence of the former French colonies, we show that the main objective is the protection of the so-called French “overseas” zones through the displacement of the French population. To analyze this, we highlight two migratory flows, on the one hand, the emigration of the Antillean population to the French mainland and, on the other hand, the immigration of French people to the Antilles, through an analysis of the critical literature on the situation in the French Antilles. It goes without saying that the conditions for both mobilities are totally different from each other. This work adds to the body of literature on displacement, mobility and migration within the Caribbean.
