En este artículo se exploran los recientes ataques perpetrados por grupos extremistas islámicos en ciudades europeas, a la luz de las teorías de guerra y de estudios estratégicos contemporáneos. Su propósito es presentar a las guerras de cuarta generación como un fenómeno donde el nivel operacional es el que tiene más presencia sobre otros niveles, usando como ejemplo la estructuración y accionar de los mencionados grupos. Se revisará la capacidad de estos grupos para llevar a cabo la guerra entre la misma población y, asimismo, las características que emergen debido a la descentralización propia de este tipo de guerra. Todo lo anterior, basándose en las teorías de complejidad en relaciones internacionales; estudios estratégicos y de inteligencia.

The recent attacks by lslamic extremist groups in European cities in the light of war theories and contemporary strategic studies are explored in this article. lts purpose is to present the fourth-generation wars as a phenomenon where the operational level is the one that has more presence on other leve Is, using as an example the structuring and action of the aforementioned groups. The capacity of these groups to carry out the war between the same population will be examined and, in the same way, the characteristics that emerge dueto the typical decentralization of this type of war. All of the above, based on theories of complexity in international relations, strategic studies and intelligence studies.
