The interaction between hominins and other predators has been a topic of interest in scientific literature. In this text, we present a reflection based on the carnivore remains found in Lam, Lm and Amk levels of the Mousterian site of Arrillor (Álava/Araba, Spain). Drawing on available ethnographic and archaeological data to comprehend the motivations of hunter-gatherer groups for hunting dangerous predators, it’s plausible to understand that Neanderthal hunting of predators such as bears, wolves, and perhaps leopards and foxes at Arrillor also had a symbolic and social dimension, linked to the use of these predators’ skins.
