This article presents the latest discoveries of dog (Canis lupus familiaris) remains recorded in archaeological excavations of sites of early or later medieval date in the city of Barcelona in recent years. The study aims to describe the characteristics of the types of animals identified, especially as regards their morphology and size, as well as their pathologies. A further contribution comes in the form of some ichnological data and documentary evidence on the presence of dogs in the city or its surroundings. The results demonstrate the presence of a wide variety of specimens, which must reflect the different functions and roles of these animals, often related to their findspots within the urban area itself or the adjoining peri-urban zone.
