Resumen de La narración de la esclavitud en el «Expediente de reclamación de libertad para una negra natural de Bahamas»*

El estudio de la esclavitud ha destacado el rol fundamental que la narracidn ha tenido en la creacidn de cierta imagen sobre el esclavo y el sujeto afrodescendiente. La forma por medio de la cual la ciencia y las instituciones de la colonia presentaron y describieron al sujeto esclavizado produjo categorias analiticas que persisten incluso hasta hoy. El presente trabajo se propone razonar sobre la posibilidad de recuperar informaciones acerca de cdmo se narrd la esclavitud en la colonia a partir de las informaciones recopiladas en los documentos de archivo de esa epoca. Tomando como punto de partida el ‘Expediente de reclamacidn de libertad para una negra natural de Bahamas’ disponible en los archivos del Ministerio de Ultramar, mi objetivo sera analizar cdmo se desarrolld la narracidn del caso que vio Placia Lawrence enfrentarse a la justicia colonial de Cuba a mediados del siglo XIX. Para fundamentar el trabajo me basare en la narratologia: si el relato es la forma por medio de la cual la realidad se vuelve tangible, la forma con la que se narra un hecho representa su insercidn en el mundo y la base de su reconocimiento. A partir de este dato, intentare delinear la estructura de las narraciones propuestas en este documento por medio de la identificacidn de las instancias (funciones, acciones y discurso) que conforman la narracidn de la esclavitud propuesta por las instituciones coloniales de la epoca.

The study of slavery has underlined the fundamental role held by narrative on creating a certain image of the slave and the afro descendant subject. The form by which science and institutions of the colony presented and described the slaved subject produced analytic categories that persist as far as today. This work proposes to think about the possibility of collecting information on how slavery was narrated in the colony from the information found in the archival documents of that period. Taking as a starting point the ‘Expediente de reclamación de libertad para una negra natural de Bahamas’ available in the archives of the Ministerio de Ultramar, my aim is to analyse how has been carried out the narration of the case that saw Placia Lawrence confront the colonial justice of Cuba in the middle of the XIXth century. To substantiate the work I will use narratology: if tale is the form through witch a reality came out to be tangible, the form used to narrate an account represent its incorporation in the world and the base for its recognition. Starting from this point, I will try to draw up the structure of the narrations proposed in this document by means of the identification of the instances (functions, actions and discourse) that define the narration of slavery proposed by the institutions of that period.
