Women among the Visigoths were irrelevant in the public sphere and in their own law. Until Recesvinto, the majority Roman community and the minority Visigothic community forbade mixed marriages, although the aristocracy and royalty were not strict in enforcing this rule. In any case, women were destined for marriage, which was decided from a very early age by the father of the family. Despite this difficult context, the role of the Visigothic queens must be appreciated. Despite the unfavourable legal and political context, they played an important role, especially in the area of power and the politics of internal and external alliances.
