This paper considers that fiction films produced in Latin America after 2000 that have been notably successful within the international arena coincides in the international essence of their production and circulation dynamics as well as they share some characteristics like (despite its heterogeneity) these ones related to the themes of their stories, their narrative strategies, and their aesthetics. By this approach, the article studies the cultural field that has radically contributed to the emergence and consolidation of the novisimos cines latinos. In this sense, it considers national, regional, and international film policies developed since 2000 as well as the agents and institutions involved in the process, with special attention to the determining role of festivals. Focusing this common background, the paper goes beyond and identifies recurrences in the stories and the way they are filmed that connect the novísimos with contemporary global cinema. In this sense, some of the most remarkable trends are related to the minimalism of the stories, the slowness in the plots and the mise en scène, the ordinary lives of the main characters, the usual locations, the natural characters, and the aesthetics of realism that dominate the filmography of the novísimos. Finally, this paper identifies a series of changes within the field and the films considered in the research and proposes a tentative ending for the novísimos around 2015.
