  Las fallidas aventuras militares americanas en Asia de las décadas pasadas han transmitido una percepción de debilidad de los EE. UU. y de Occidente en general, lo que no solo resulta peligroso, sino también provocador para aquellas naciones disconformes con el sistema liberal y que desean cambiarlo. Así, el aparente retroceso de Occidente y particularmente de los EE. UU., cuyo poder militar habría perdido credibilidad y por lo tanto capacidad de disuasión, da una ventana de oportunidad a sus oponentes. La invasión rusa de Ucrania, la agresividad de Irán en Oriente Medio y sobre todo la posibilidad de un ataque chino a Taiwán, vienen a retar la continuidad de la primacía global occidental liderada por los EE. UU. y que se asienta, entre otros pilares, sobre un amplísimo sistema de alianzas internacionales y sobre su superioridad naval global. El fin del sistema occidental bien pudiera dar lugar a un caos generalizado, de ahí la necesidad de no dejar que desaparezca, respondiendo apropiadamente a los retos que se presentan

  Those failed American military adventures in Asia in recent decades have conveyed a perception of weakness in the United States and the West in general, which is not only dangerous, but also provocative for those nations that are dissatisfied with the liberal system and wish to change it. Thus, the apparent retreat of the West and particularly of the United States, whose military power would have lost credibility and therefore deterrence capacity, granting a window of opportunity to its adversaries. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, Iran's belligerence in the Middle East and above all the possibility of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, come to challenge the continuity of Western global primacy, led by the US. Which is established, among other pillars, on America’s huge system of international alliances, and its global naval superiority. The end of the Western system could well lead to widespread chaos, hence the need not to let it disappear, and to respond appropriately to its standing challenges.
