Resumen de Mali, Níger y Burkina Faso: redefiniendo alianzas en el panorama geopolítico de África Occidental

  Motivado por la creciente presencia de grupos terroristas y una sucesión de golpes de Estado en Mali, Níger y Burkina Faso, África Occidental se enfrenta a una reconfiguración geopolítica. Como resultado de dichos golpes de Estado, las juntas militares que se han hecho con el poder han mostrado su voluntad de distanciarse de las alianzas y vínculos tradicionales con las potencias occidentales. La justificación que presentan es el fracaso en la lucha contra los problemas de inestabilidad e inseguridad que hace frente la región.

  Por este motivo, EE. UU. y la UE han visto enormemente reducida su presencia e influencia en la región. Por su parte, Rusia se presenta como un posible nuevo aliado y la creación de la Alianza de Estados del Sahel (AES) amenaza el futuro de la Comunidad Económica de Estados de África Occidental (CEDEAO). De estas alianzas y sus apoyos externos depende el futuro panorama geopolítico de África Occidental.

  En este documento de trabajo se analizará la situación de Mali, Níger, Burkina Faso y las posibles consecuencias de las nuevas alianzas.

  Motivated by the growing presence of terrorist groups and a succession of coups d'état in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, West Africa is facing a geopolitical reconfiguration. As a result of these coups, the military juntas that have seized power have shown their willingness to distance themselves from traditional alliances and ties with Western powers. The reason for this is that they are blamed for the failure to combat the problems of instability and insecurity facing the region. Due to this factor, the US and the EU have seen their presence and influence in the region greatly reduced. For its part, Russia appears as a possible new ally and the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) threatens the future of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The future geopolitical landscape of West Africa depends on these alliances and their external supporters.

  This paper will analyze the situation in these three countries and the possible consequences of the new alliances.
