Conocer, dominar o conquistar el espacio, el cosmos, el universo infinito en el que viajamos girando alrededor del Sol, supone ir logrando grandes avances que, hasta hace unos años, parecían imposibles en el ámbito científico, sanitario, económico… pero también estratégico y táctico. Son claras las ventajas militares que tiene mantener la superioridad o la supremacía en este entorno cada vez más disputado y cada vez más lleno de satélites para todo tipo de aplicaciones, como la observación o las comunicaciones… y de la nociva chatarra que deja detrás, entre sus peores hitos, la carrera espacial. Este espacio, con unas reglas de juego aceptadas hace más de medio siglo por las grandes potencias en plena Guerra Fría, se enfrenta a una militarización creciente que, de momento, apura los márgenes de las leyes establecidas de convivencia fuera de nuestra atmósfera. Una geopolítica inestable con varios enfrentamientos abiertos en el mundo, presupuestos militares en claro crecimiento, tecnologías cada vez más disruptivas como la IA o nuevos actores, como las empresas privadas o naciones que ya tienen su bandera en el cosmos, ponen muy en duda el sueño de un espacio de convivencia y progreso para la humanidad.

Knowing, dominating or conquering Space, the Cosmos, the infinite universe in which we travel around the Sun, means achieving great advances that, until a few years ago, seemed impossible in the scientific, health and economic fields... also strategic and tactical. There are clear military advantages to maintaining superiority or supremacy in this increasingly contested environment, which is more and more full of satellites for all kinds of applications, such as observation or communications ... and of the harmful junk that the space race leaves behind, among its worst milestones. This space, with rules of the game accepted more than half a century ago by the great powers in the middle of the Cold War, is facing a growing militarization that, for the moment, squeezes the margins of the established laws of coexistence outside our atmosphere. Unstable geopolitics with several open confrontations in the world, military budgets in clear growth, increasingly disruptive technologies such as AI or new actors, such as private companies or nations that already have their flag in the Cosmos, put the dream of a Space of coexistence and progress for Humanity in serious doubt.
