    Nigeria es el gigante más temido de África Subsahariana, por sus índices macroeconómicos, por sus ingentes recursos naturales y por sus estimaciones demográficas; pero también por la enorme pobreza que sufre su población, por la corrupción endémica y por una expansión inigualable e imparable de la criminalidad organizada, el terrorismo y las actividades delictivas. En este contexto, la trata de personas se ha convertido en uno de los tres negocios criminales más extendidos y lucrativos en el país, junto con el ciberfraude y el tráfico de drogas. Nigeria figura habitualmente como uno de los países con mayor número de víctimas de trata en el extranjero, aunque más de la mitad de estas son vendidas y explotadas en el interior del país. Hasta hace relativamente poco tiempo, era una realidad muy focalizada en algunas zonas; pero, en la actualidad, la venta de niñas y mujeres con fines de esclavitud sexual se extiende por todos los estados nacionales, lo que pone de manifiesto la insuficiencia de las medidas tomadas para frenar este problema, y para atender y proteger a las víctimas por parte de las autoridades nigerianas, de los países receptores y de la comunidad internacional.

    Nigeria is the most feared sub-Saharan African giant, because of its macroeconomic indicators, its huge natural resources and its population estimates; but also because of the extreme poverty suffered by the population, the endemic corruption and an unstoppable expansion of organized crime, terrorism and criminal activities. In this context, human trafficking has become one of the three most widespread and lucrative criminal businesses in the country, along with cyber fraud and drug trafficking. Nigeria is regularly listed as one of the countries with the highest number of victims trafficked abroad, although more than half of the victims are sold and exploited within the country.

    Until relatively recently, it was a reality very focused on some areas; but today, the sale of girls and women for sexual slavery, is widespread in all the national states which highlights the inadequacy of the measures taken to stop this problem, and to care for and protect the victims, by the Nigerian authorities, the destination countries and the International Community
