El 19 de abril se iniciaron las elecciones generales en la India, donde todas las encuestas dan por ganador al actual primer ministro, Narendra Modi, que conseguiría así su tercer mandato. Aunque las claves en política exterior y seguridad, en especial al respecto de China y Pakistán, son contempladas de forma similar por parte de la oposición, liderada por la coalición INDIA, existen algunas incógnitas, siendo la principal la influencia determinante de la ideología nacionalista hindutva en su política exterior y sus consecuencias, sobre todo en relación con el mundo musulmán. Existe una dicotomía entre el imparable ascenso de la India al estatus de potencia global con intereses propios, frente a su histórica imagen de país no alineado, adalid de la multilateralidad y representante del sur global. Por último, en estas elecciones también está en juego la posición de la India respecto a cuestiones tales como la guerra de Ucrania, su relación con Rusia e Israel o el conflicto en Gaza.

On April 19, the general elections began in India, where all polls show the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, as the winner, who would thus achieve his third term. Although the key issues in foreign policy and security, especially regarding China and Pakistan, are viewed in a similar way by the opposition, led by the INDIA coalition. There are some unknowns, the main one being the determining influence of the Hindutva nationalist ideology in its foreign policy and its consequences, especially in relation to the Muslim world. There is a dichotomy between India's unstoppable rise to the status of a global power with its own interests, versus its historical image as a non-aligned country, champion of multilateralism and representative of the Global South. Finally, India's position on issues such as the war in Ukraine, its relationship with Russia and Israel or the conflict in Gaza is also at stake in these elections.
