    En este artículo nos interesa demostrar que la identidad champuria puede ser percibida y problematizada en un corpus específico de escritura de dos dirigentes mapuche de la primera mitad del siglo XX, Manuel Manquilef (1887-1950) y su sobrina, Isolde Manquilef (1918-2020). Más que identificarse explícitamente como champuria o centrarse en un análisis específico de este concepto, ambos sujetos lo despliegan como temprano marcador identitario que opera al interior de la sociedad mapuche. Siguiendo las propuestas de “intelectual indígena” (Zapata), nuestro artículo sostiene la relevancia de ambos intelectuales para la discusión actual sobre el concepto champuria que está siendo llevada a cabo por académicos, poetas y artistas en Chile y lo lleva a un periodo histórico poco explorado desde este mismo concepto. Además, nuestro estudio considera el concepto de chiñura y cómo se manifiesta en el corpus de textos, lo que nos permite poner el valor el trabajo intelectual de Isolde Manquilef al incorporar esta dimensión que funciona de manera distinta para las mujeres mapuche. A través de su historia en particular, aportamos una nueva mirada a la multiplicidad de las trayectorias champuria de mujeres mapuche en el campo intelectual y político histórico.

    In this article we demonstrate how champuria identity can be perceived and problematized in a specific corpus of writings by two Mapuche leaders from the first half of the 20th century: Manuel Manquilef (1887-1950) and his niece, Isolde Manquilef (1918-2020). Rather than explicitly identify as champuria or analyze this term, it manifests in their self-representations of identity and positionality, and as an early marker of identity operating within Mapuche society. Our article proposes that both “indigenous intellectuals’” (Zapata) writings are relevant to current discussions regarding the concept of champuria carried out by academics, poets, and artists in Chile, which are usually focused on contemporary works. Our study demonstrates its relevance to research about the past. Additionally, we consider the concept of chiñura and how it manifests in the same corpus to contextualize the importance of Isolde’s work as well as to demonstrate how the notion of chiñura worked differently for Mapuche women than for Mapuche men. Through Isolde Manquilef’s story and writing, we contribute a new perspective to the multiplicity of champuria trajectories for Mapuche women in the political and intellectual realms of the past
