  • Resumen
    • Creativity and artistic manifestations in general are the mark of harmonious personality development and mental health. Yet, there are many special individuals called ‘mad geniuses’ whose extreme creativity manifested through exquisite, highly-original works of art undeniably bear the mark of psychopathology. It is the purpose of this paper to shed some light on the relation between creativity and psychopathology, in the light of the latest evidence-based research on this topic. Another practical goal of this paper is to delve into the biographies and medical histories of some of the greatest creators, witness their inner struggles with their own psychopathology, find that thin line between sanity and insanity when it comes to creative manifestations and verify the validity of the supposition that psychopathological symptoms can be transcended by means of artistic endeavors.
